Our 2 day Analytics & Machine Learning Hackathon went off with a bang! Over 50 students from [**RMIT University**](http://www.rmit.edu.au/), [**University of Melbourne**](http://www.unimelb.edu.au/), [**Deakin University**](https://www.deakin.edu.au/) and [**Monash University**](https://www.monash.edu/) turned up with their laptops in hand and game face on. Teams were challenged to build solutions to real [**Telstra**](http://www.telstra.com.au/) business problems using analytics, statistics, data science and machine learning.

With $2000 worth of prizes, and internships up for grabs, participants were keen to show the judges their skills.

**Day 1:**

Teams formed and the action started. Everyone was hard at work understanding the problem, reviewing their data and working through a solution.

### **Day 2:**

Teams worked hard all morning and were asked to pitch their solutions to a judging panel of Telstra senior managers, in the afternoon. The competition was tough and judges were at a stalemate, deciding to award 2 teams 1st place.

Congratulations to our 2 winning teams, Sayoni and Ivy, and Adelbert and Yong!

We'd like to thank everyone who made this event possible: [**Telstra**](http://www.telstra.com.au/), [**RMIT Activator**](https://www.rmit.edu.au/for-business/activator), [**Mathworks**](https://au.mathworks.com/), [**Tableau**](https://www.tableau.com/), and [**Dr. Jeffrey Chan**](https://www.rmit.edu.au/contact/staff-contacts/academic-staff/c/chan-dr-jeffrey)(Senior Lecturer, Computer Science and Software Engineering, RMIT University).

We’d also like to thank [StrEAT](https://www.streat.com.au/) catering for the great food and for [OzHarvest Melbourne](https://www.ozharvest.org/melbourne/) for rescuing any leftovers and making sure no food went to waste.
